DART Partners with Lewes Lions Club on New Bus Shelter in Lewes

Lewes --

Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC)/DART First State and the Lewes Lions Club partnered on a project to provide a bus shelter at the Huling Cove Community located on Savannah Road in Lewes, Delaware. Now, DART riders will be sheltered while waiting for the bus that will take them to work, home, shopping, visiting friends and family, or wherever they need to travel.

"As we continue to expand DART bus services in Sussex County and improve customer service, we're pleased to provide this bus shelter providing customers with a convenient waiting area, while protecting them from the elements," said Transportation Secretary Jennifer Cohan.

The Lewes Lions Club partially funded the new bus shelter with a check for $6,000 to restore and improve the Huling Cove Community bus stop. The stop now offers an ADA accessible covered shelter, bench and a trash receptacle. "The bus shelter displays a sign recognizing the Lewes Lions Club for partially funding this project," said John T. Sisson, Chief Executive Officer of DTC. He added, "We welcome partnerships like this that help the community, as well as help DTC by deferring the cost."

On August 25, 2017, DART and the Lewes Lions Club representatives had a ribbon cutting ceremony at this new bus shelter. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, the President Lion Charles Covington, Sr. and Lion Lloyd Schmitz shared their appreciation for the partnership, and the shelter that will benefit many for years to come. The Lewes Lions Club was started in 1946 by a group of local individuals wanting to serve the local and wider community.
