Environmental Statement
DTC is committed to providing public transit service that protects and preserves the environment with every trip on DART services and every dollar invested in green technology.
Zero Emission Buses
DTC’s goal is to achieve a 50% reduction in its total greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2030
- Six Low/No Emission Bus Grants totaling $31.4M
- Zero Emission Buses Currently Operating
- 14 in New Castle County
- Six in Kent County
- Six in Sussex County
DTC’s Zero Emission buses comprise over 10% of its entire fixed-route bus fleet.
CO2 Emissions Impact
Since 2019, ZEB buses have logged 1,210,532 in-service miles. Based upon industry standards, electric buses have produced 1,305 metric tons of CO2.
If Diesel vehicles logged that same 1,210,532 in-service miles each would have produced 3,244 metric tons of CO2.
The CO2 savings from Zero Emission buses is equivalent to removing 447 gasoline cars from the road each year
Propane Buses
- DTC purchased five propane paratransit buses as a 2-year pilot in 2014
- Entire DART paratransit fleet is now using propane autogas.
- Propance autogas vehicles cut significantly more nitrogen oxide and greenhouse gas emissions compared with diesel and gasoline vehicles
Statewide Facilities
- Solar panels located at several DART bus maintenance facilities in New Castle and Kent counties.
- In the near future, solar panels and battery energy storage systems planned for DTC's Dover Administration and Maintenance building, Rehoboth Park & Ride and Dover Transit Center.
